John Alfred "Jack" Reddy Jr.

John Alfred "Jack" Reddy Jr., 93 years young, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving

family on January 12, 2026, in Vermilion, Ohio. Born on October 16, 1932, in Sebring, Ohio to

the late John Alfred and Jesse (née Newcomer) Reddy, Sr. A lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio,

John lived a life marked by curiosity, quiet dedication, and a deep love for family.

A proud 1950 graduate of McKinley High School in Sebring, John's passion for learning carried

him through a Bachelor's of Science degree from Mount Union College in Alliance and a

Master's degree in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. A lifelong

learner in every sense, he believed knowledge was meant to be shared. That belief guided his

proud service in the United States Coast Guard from 1952 to 1956 and later defined his career as

an educator. John retired from Lorain High School after many years of teaching and continued

shaping young minds at Lorain Catholic where his teaching left a lasting impression on countless

students.

Above all else, John treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-

grandchildren who brought him immense joy. In quieter moments, he could often be found

immersed in a good book, cheering faithfully for the Cleveland Browns, or enjoying a classic

western film. His life reflected a steady commitment to the people and principles he loved.

John is survived by his devoted children, Ron Reddy (Maureen), Rona Vagrosky (Michael),

David Reddy (Ashlee), and John Reddy (Beverly); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;

son-in-law Archie Cole; sister-in-law Nancy Derickson; and brother-in-law Ted Welsh. He was

preceded in death by his beloved wife Margaret Reddy, cherished daughter Karen Cole, and his

sisters Joyce Reed, Joann Reddy, and Janet Welsh.

John will be privately laid to rest with his wife at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly,

Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to habitat for

Humanity or to Friendship APL of Elyria.
