John David Reed

Age 69 of Haddonfield

John David Reed of Haddonfield, New Jersey, passed away on March 9, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and passed peacefully shortly after his 69th birthday.

Born on February 22, 1957, in East Aurora, New York, John was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He touched the lives of many with his warmth, humor, curiosity, and gregarious spirit. John had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Handsome, charismatic, and endlessly charming, he combined a brilliant mind and disarming wit with a deeply empathetic heart. He was a generous friend whose laughter and presence brought joy to those around him.

John graduated from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., with a degree in Business Administration. He went on to build a successful career in project management, working primarily on large computer contracts for the federal government. He was known for his ability to build strong teams, mentor colleagues, and lead with both intelligence and humor.

In 1995, John and his wife, Susan, moved to Haddonfield, New Jersey, where they lovingly raised their three sons and built a life centered on family, friendship, and community.

John had a lifelong passion for golf and was an excellent player. After retiring on his 65th birthday- 02-22-2022 -he found his dream role working on the senior crew at Pine Valley Golf Club, where he took great pride in caring for the course he had long admired. Those peaceful early mornings, watching the sun rise over Pine Valley, became some of the moments he treasured most. His hole-in-one at Pine Valley remained one of his most cherished accomplishments. When he wasn't on the course, John found equal joy in his garden, where he delighted in cultivating unusual trees and plants that reflected his love of nature and beauty.

John is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Susan, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and adventure; his cherished sons, Tyler Edward Reed and Gavin Oliver Reed (Maria); his brother Edward Reed (Connie) of Seattle; his sisters Dianne Severance (Eric) of Lake Tahoe and Amy Feagin (Jerre) of Loveland; his brother-in-law John Overbeck; and his adored nieces and nephews Jennifer Farina (Jon), Kate Senecal (Brian), John Overbeck, Liam Reed, Trevor Reed (Steve), Weston Reed (Erika), Sasha McKillip (Jeremy), Julia Coultas (Charlie), and Mia Severance; as well as great-nephews and great-nieces Ethan, Felicity, Sophie, Silas, and Jonah.

He was predeceased by his beloved son Spencer Reed, his sister Kathryn Overbeck, and his parents Edward and Lurana Reed.

From his earliest days, John was a spirited original-a force of nature who lived a rich and full life. He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, his boundless curiosity, and the deep love he had for his family and friends.

John's services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor John's memory by living with love and joy, practicing kindness, appreciating the beauty of nature, and always looking out for one another-while never forgetting to laugh, have fun, and enjoy life. In doing so, you help carry forward the joyful spirit that John brought to the world.
