John Robert Reeves, age 87, of Cottage Grove, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 24, 2025 at home. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and acted as a dad to the neighborhood kids. He was a true EastSider who moved to Minnesota from Chicago when he was 10 years old after his mother passed away. He graduated from Harding High School and worked at Pepsi, retired from Ford Local UAW 879. He enjoyed Cribbage, horseshoes, bags, darts, cards, fishing, bowling, golf, and working on cars, that's how he got the nickname Ratchet.
Preceded in wife, Patricia Ann (Garrett); daughter, Candace Marie (Reeves) Luchsinger; parents, Davis Rutherford Reeves and Dovie Pauline (Hayes) Reeves; siblings, Harold Davis, Eugene Weldon, Zeta Celestine (Reeves) (Tutor) Collazo, Al Smith, Larry Dean, and James Preston.
Survived by son, Johnny Robert Reeves Jr. (Diane); daughters, Jenny Lee (Reeves) Woods, Christina Dovie Reeves, Angela Ann (Reeves) Deckard (Rick), and LuAnne Kathleen Reeves; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; close family members and friends- Roger and Joanne Tutor, Wylie G. Garrett, Michelle (Mick Gilbert) Garrett, Ronnie Garrett, Barbara (Garrett) Hastings, and Rita and Luis Rodriguez.
Funeral Service 1 PM with visitation beginning at 12 PM, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th St. S., Cottage Grove, MN 55016. Interment to follow at Grey Cloud Island Cemetery.
