John Remol Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wright Funeral Home on Jan. 3, 2026.
John Collinge Remol, retired Major, United States Air Force, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Veterans Day, November 11, 2025, in Monroe, North Carolina.
John was born on October 17, 1950, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, the son of John Shane Remol and Eleanor (Collinge) Remol. He was a 1968 graduate of Brookfield R-III High School in Brookfield, Missouri, and went on to attend Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. While at Westminster, John answered a call to serve his country, enrolling in the United States Army ROTC program in 1970 and completing basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Upon graduating in 1973, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and completed pilot training at Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas.
During sixteen years of active-duty service, John built a distinguished Air Force career as both a fighter and instructor pilot. He flew the F-4 Phantom and F-15 Eagle, serving in assignments across the United States, Europe, and Asia. His leadership and professionalism led him to roles of significant responsibility, including F-15 Air Defense Fighter Squadron Commander and Battle Staff Commander in the Northeast Air Defense Sector. John took great pride in serving his country and the airmen entrusted to his leadership. Following his military service, John continued his love of aviation in a second career, joining American Airlines, flying domestic and international routes throughout the world.
In 1984, John married Carolyn (Boatwright) Moseley, the love of his life and a fellow aviation enthusiast. Together they built a life marked by adventure, shared purpose, and deep devotion to family. After years spent traveling the world for their careers, they settled in Monroe, North Carolina. Nothing gave him more pride than his three children, and he was profoundly grateful for their unwavering love and support, especially during his illness.
John enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, and spending time by the water with Carolyn. He was an antique car enthusiast, a thoughtful conversationalist, and someone who never shied away from a spirited political debate. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother-steady, principled, and deeply loving.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Boatwright) Moseley Remol; his mother, Eleanor Remol; his children, Justin Remol (Heather Dietzold), Kevin Moseley (Stacie), and Emily Moseley (Brian Surbaugh); six grandchildren, Kyle Moseley, Nick Moseley, Leighanna Cabusao (Jarryd), Aiden Moseley, Henry Birt, and Sydney Birt; his sister, Shane Thudium (Bill); sister-in-law, Anita Hoffman; nephew, Nile Thudium (Jenny); nieces, Noel Staddie (R.J.); and Kjersten Parn (Matt); five great-nieces; five great-nephews; and one great-great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Shane Remol.
A remembrance honoring John's life and military service will be held Friday, February 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Tunnels to Towers is requested by the family.
