John Henry Rich, Jr., age 64, of Sweet Springs, Missouri passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022, at his home surrounded by the love of his family.
John was born on July 16, 1958, to the late John Henry and Vernell (Coffee) Rich, Sr.
He graduated from Sweet Springs High School, Class of 1976, where he played football and in the summer was on the summer league softball team. He was united in marriage on October 19, 1977, to Jacqueline Diane Artis, and to this union they were blessed with one son, Marcus.
John was an avid KC Chiefs and KC Royals fan, and went to the first opening Royals game every year. He loved antique car shows, sprint cars, custom cars, and went to many car shows to watch his nephew win a number of competitions. No matter the task, he was a hard worker who devoted ten years to Wilson Foods, and thirty years to Tyson Deli Foods in Concordia, Missouri. Everyone who knew John and Jacqueline knew they had better never call between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. while they were watching Wheel of Fortune, their favorite show!
He accepted the Lord as his Savior at a young age and attended the Malta Bend Yokum Chapel A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Pastor Dolly Crutchfield until he married. After his marriage, he joined the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, and lastly attended the Macedonia Church of God in Christ in Marshall, Missouri.
John is survived by his wife Jacqueline, of the home; his son, Marcus Rich and wife Kerri, of Sweet Springs, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jaheem Rich of St. Louis, Missouri, and Da'-Marcus Rich of Sweet Springs, Missouri; siblings, George Rich, Sr., and wife Diane, of Sweet Springs, Missouri, Lonnie Rich, Sr., of Jefferson City, Missouri, Anna Kemp and husband Oscar, of Columbia, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Matthew Artis and wife Angie of DeWitt, Missouri, and Christopher Artis and wife Mildred, of DeWitt, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Loretta Rich of Marshall, Missouri, and Rona Lewis of Jefferson City, Missouri; a host of nieces, nephews; family, and friends; and one Goddaughter, Tanijia Lewis of Columbia, Missouri, who happened to share the same birthday. Each year they would get together and celebrate.
John was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Scott; two nephews, Sedrick Lewis, and Christopher Porter; and two nieces, Jody Lee and Lakedria Kemp; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Matthew and Sarah Artis.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North 65 Highway, Carrollton, Missouri with Pastor Ralph Varner officiating.
Burial will be held at African Oak Hill Cemetery in Carrollton, Missouri.
The family asks you to keep them in their prayers and they will pray for you as well.
May your journey always lead to home.
