John R. Riggins of Edgewater, New Jersey, passed away on March 9, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Alongside his loving wife, Helen Riggins, John was a pillar of the Edgewater, NJ, community, where he resided for over four decades, supporting his beloved Yankees and an avid collector of antiques and memorabilia.

Born in Rochelle Park, New Jersey, John built a long and distinguished career in the title insurance industry spanning more than three decades. He began his career in 1961 as an independent title researcher at the Bergen County Courthouse and later joined New Jersey Realty Title Insurance Company, where he worked until 1972. In 1973, he joined Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company in Hackensack, where he served in several leadership roles including Chief Title Examiner, Assistant Vice President, and Office Manage

In 1989, John returned to New Jersey Realty Title Insurance Company as Vice President and Branch Manager in Hackensack. In 1993 he was named manager of the Chicago Title Insurance Company's Hackensack branch office, continuing a career marked by professionalism, integrity, and deep knowledge of the title insurance field.

John graduated from Hackensack High School and later attended Edward Williams Junior College in Hackensack, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree. He continued his studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He later received his Juris Doctor degree from Seton Hall Law School in Newark in 1972. He was a member of both the New Jersey Bar Association and the Bergen County Bar Association.

John is survived by his loving wife, Helen Riggins of Edgewater, NJ. He is also survived by his daughter Arlene Czop; his granddaughter Krystal Scrudato and her fiancé Mark Suleymanov of Brooklyn, New York; his grandson Salvatore Scrudato and his wife Lisa Scrudato of Hackensack, New Jersey; and his great-grandson Salvatore Scrudato III.

He was predeceased by his son John William Riggins and his daughter April P. Scrudato.
