Mr. John Riggs, Jr., age 87, of Rising Fawn, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Riggs will be held at 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 in the Trenton Chapel with Pastor Chris Ware officiating. Military honors will be observed. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 PM until the service hour. Mr. Riggs will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens in Chapmanville, West Virginia at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2024 following a short graveside committal service at the cemetery.
John was a native of Holden, West Virginia and was born on October 1, 1936, to the late John Riggs Sr. and Zara Pack Riggs and has resided in Dade County, Georgia for several years. He was member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and was a fervent believer in Jesus Christ. John proudly served his county in the United States Air Force. He retired as a Coal Miner with Marrowbone Development in West Virginia after many years. John also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. John will truly be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him but are reassured that he is safely at home with the Lord.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Riggs Runyan; brothers, Sylvester & Wilborn Riggs; sisters, Sybil Turyn, Ina Kent and Ethel Osack.
Survivors include his sons, John (Teresa) Riggs III and Harold Riggs; six grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Tapestry Hospice for their care and compassion shown during this difficult time.
Arrangements for Marvin have been entrusted to the care of Moore Funeral Home, Trenton, Georgia.
