John Arthur Roach

John Arthur Roach, aged 80, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away on the morning of May 13, 2024, after a valiant struggle with the aftermath of a stroke several months prior. John was born on August 26, 1943, in Ionia, Michigan, and soon found his calling in service after graduating from Lyons High School, joining the Air Force and serving his country honorably in Vietnam.
John's dedication to service did not cease upon his military retirement after 20 years. He returned to Shepard Air Force Base as a civilian instructor, continuing to impart his knowledge and experience to new generations of service members. His career eventually transitioned to serving the Wichita Falls community, first as a city bus driver and then as a charter coach driver, providing specialized transport services for military personnel to training sites across the western states.
A lifelong enthusiast of the open road, John was also a passionate motorcycle rider, exploring the landscapes of America, particularly its mountains, with his friends Gordon Soper, Gary Walker, and his brother, Vern. His commitment extended to participating in the Patriot Guard, where he escorted deceased military service members, embodying his ethos of service until the end.
John was beloved for treating everyone as a best friend, a trait that endeared him to many. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara, his daughter, Christine Roach, two stepsons, his brothers Vern (Patty) and Von (Mary), and his sisters Goldie, and Carol (Patrick) Lewis. He also leaves behind a legacy through numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who cherished him deeply. Preceding him in death were his parents, Vern Fredrick Roach and Aileen Frances (Wilson) Vos, his sister Sherry Gault, and his son John Tracy Roach.
The family expresses profound gratitude to his granddaughter Kendra Contreras for her selfless and loving care in John's final days.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Lucy Park Log Cabin on Saturday, August 24th, from 2pm-5pm.
