John Wesley Robertson II, of
Flower Mound, TX, passed away late Saturday, April 27, at T. Boone Pickens Hospice Care Center in Dallas, TX. For the past two months, John courageously battled a myriad of health problems. During that time, no matter how painful or dark the day was, John continually radiated the kindness, gentleness, and grace of Jesus Christ. During a brief period in Dallas, when he was able to speak and use his voice, John could be heard singing praise to Jesus from his ICU hospital bed, bringing encouragement and joy to both fellow patients, their families, and his medical providers.
John was born on September 9, 1948, in
Olney, TX, to Floyd and Tempy Robertson. John was the third child born to his parents and he would eventually have three sisters, whom he loved dearly; Jean, Christine, and Beverly. The values and ideals that marked John's life were established within him at a very early age. John's family never had many earthly resources, but they worked hard and devoted their lives to loving and serving the Lord through the local church.
While growing up and attending High School in Wichita Falls, John met the love of his life, Linda Sue Hunt, The two began courting one another by serving as chaperones for Ken and Chris, their respective older siblings. John and Linda were married on March 7, 1970. John and Linda were married for ten years before they welcomed their only child into the world.
Blessed with an incredibly sharp mind and a remarkable attention to detail, John quickly went to work in a warehouse for Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company as a young man. Ultimately, John would ascend through the company, eventually overseeing much of the company's networking and IT operations in the United States. John eventually retired from Pfizer in the late 1990s after more than thirty years of hard work there. Beyond his work in the corporate world, John's true calling and passion was serving the Lord through vocational music ministry. John began leading worship in churches as a teenage boy. For much of his adult life, John worked as a bi-vocational music minister in numerous churches in North Texas and
Chicago, IL. For the past 27 years, John was blessed to serve as the minister of worship and finance for Gateway United Baptist Church. John treasured the people of Gateway with all of his heart. These brothers and sisters became some of the closest and dearest friends that he would know during his life.
John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Elisha Robertson, and his four grandchildren; Lizzy, Keira, Kamryn, and Colt Robertson, all from
Dorchester, TX. His sister, Christine, and husband Ken Hunt, of Lake Palestine, TX, and several nephews along with their families.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Tempy; his wife, Linda; and sisters, Jean and Beverly; and his nephew, Steve.
A service will be held for John on Friday, May 3, 10:00 AM, at Gateway United Baptist Church in
Denton, TX; Rev. Wes Robertson and Rev. Buddy Owens will be officiating. Family visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2, from 6:00-8:00 PM, also at Gateway United Baptist Church.
John will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park. All arrangements made by Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home.
