John "Jack" J. Rush
John "Jack" J. Rush, age 97, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 in the comfort of his home. He was the loving husband of Jeanne A. (Pronovost) Rush.
Born on February 27, 1928, in Waterbury, Jack was the son of the late James and Marie (Barton) Rush. A graduate of Wilby High School, he captained the football team and attended the prom with his beloved future wife, Jeanne. He later attended the Eastern Military Academy. Jack worked as a compositor for the Republican American for more than 40 years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
After his retirement, he and Jeanne made the move to the beach town, Charlestown, RI where they have lived for the past 25 years. An avid swimmer, Jack could be found every morning in the ocean for his daily swim. He enjoyed sports and was a big Boston Red Sox fan. Devout in his faith, Jack was a longtime parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Waterbury and St. James Chapel in Charlestown.
Generous with a great sense of humor, Jack loved family gatherings. Christmas parties at the Rush house were not to be missed. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather who proudly attended his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and performances. Jack often said, "I'm the happiest man alive!"
In addition to Jeanne, his beloved wife of 72 years, Jack is survived by his children Dennis Rush and his wife Cornelia McLoughlin of Barre, MA, Jill Sweeney and her husband Timothy of Southbury, John Rush of Waterbury, and Patrick Rush and his wife Maria of Parrish, FL; his six grandchildren Lindsey Gutierrez and her husband Paul, Daniel Sweeney and his wife Natalie, Yara Diniz Rush and her husband Bruno Mello, Emily Sweeney, Louis Rush, Elizabeth Rush, and John Lucas Rush. He also leaves his great-grandchildren Sophia Gutierrez, Dustin Sweeney, Peyton Sweeney, and Henry Gutierrez as well as several generations of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Thomas Rush and his wife Mary and Dennis Rush who was killed in the Korean War, and his sisters Marion Gumpper and her husband William and Betty Scriven.
Jack's funeral will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for a Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
