Marion DePecol Obituary

Marion Innes DePecol
Marion Innes DePecol, 100, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026. She was a lifelong resident of Thomaston and more recently lived at KindCare in Bristol. She was predeceased by her husband, Bruno DePecol (2012) and her daughter, Martha DePecol (2002).
Marion was born September 20, 1925, in Thomaston to Allan and Agda (Sandell) Innes. She attended local schools and graduated from Thomaston High School in 1943. That year, Marion also had the honor of being Miss Columbia at the Memorial Day parade ceremony. After completing her education in Boston at Katherine Gibbs, she returned home and worked as a secretary for New Departure in Bristol.
Marion married Bruno on January 30, 1951. They lived and raised their four children in Thomaston. In retirement they spent much of their time traveling with friends and wintering in Florida.
Marion was deeply committed to volunteer service and her community. She was an active Girl Scout for decades, including roles in leadership and fundraising and involved in the Thomaston Historical Society and the American Cancer Society Bloodmobile Chapter. She made a lasting impact on the Thomaston library, serving on the Board of Directors, organizing a major fundraising campaign for the new library, and founding the Bargain Shop to support library programs. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church, serving on the stewardship and finance committees. Active in the Thomaston Women's Club, she was instrumental in forming their Breast Cancer Committee and later serving as President, and as chairperson in the CT State Federation of Women's Clubs for four years. She was bestowed the honor of the Thomaston Rotary Citizen of the Year Paul Harris Award for all her volunteerism and civic contributions.
Marion is survived by her three children, Nancy DePecol of Litchfield, Mark DePecol and his wife Cynthia of Roxbury, and Christine Morel and her husband David of Cape Coral, Florida. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Douglas 'Steeley' DePecol (Nancy), Cassandra and Jason DePecol (Mark), and Dayna Swols and Jeffrey Morel (Christine), and four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Elaine Innes Buckley and Helen Innes Titus.
In lieu of a memorial service and keeping with her wishes, there will be a private burial at Hilltop Cemetery in the Spring. To honor her memory, donations may be made to Friends of the Thomaston Library, 248 Main St., Thomaston, CT 06787.
