John M. Sachs

John "Jack" M. Sachs, 96, passed away on December 11, 2022. He was born on July 6, 1926 in Madison, Wisconsin, son of John and Frances (Connolly) Sachs. Jack was enlisted to the U.S. Navy during WWII and served from 1943 until 1946. He went on to marry the love of his life, Lorraine Behnisch on August 12, 1950 and were married 61 years before her passing in 2011. In 1950 he also graduated from Loras College with a degree in Economics. All of his working career was spent in the plant management of various snack food companies, he most notably worked for companies like Bluestar Foods, Swinson Foods, Highland Potato Chips and reopened the BlueStar Foods plant which became Vitner's Foods in 1978. He was very active at Holy Family Church and at Siena on Brendenwood where lived until 2021.
He is survived by those who loved him most, his seven children John E (Janice Von Arb) Sachs, David (Mary) Sachs, Paul (Alva) Sachs, Mary (Scott) Thompson, Philip (Mary) Sachs, Ann Reno, and Rita (Timothy) Coffman; 17 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren; his sister Joan Dolan, and brothers William (Corrinne) Sachs and James (Ginnie) Sachs; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Lorraine; his parents; his sister Mary Sachs, brother-in-law Joseph Patrick Dolan, son-in-law Carl Reno and grandson Rob Thompson.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford, Illinois 61107.
