Stephen J. “Steve” Pluemer, age 79, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on May 13, 1946, and raised in Potosi, Steve lived a life defined by hard work, faith, perseverance, and deep commitment to those he loved. He shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Susan Uppena, building a life grounded in family and community.
Steve attended Loras College before serving his country in Vietnam. After returning home, he purchased the family farm and dedicated himself to growing and improving it.
Beyond the farm, Steve had a heart for service. For ten years, he volunteered weekly at Morningside Assisted Living, faithfully giving his time, companionship, and kindness to residents. His steady presence and willingness to help others reflected the generous spirit he carried throughout his life.
Steve found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved playing games — pinochle, cribbage, euchre, and Yahtzee — and treasured the laughter and friendly competition around the table. He took special pride in his garden and in canning the fruits of his labor, always providing for his family.
His legacy lives on in the land he nurtured, the family he cherished, and the many lives he touched through his wisdom, generosity, service, and steady example. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
He is survived by his children, Doug (Colleen), Stacy (Dan), and Brian (Bridget), his cherished grandchildren, Dylan, Trevor, Katie, Marissa, Nicholas, Luke, Annika, Thomas, Michael, and Maria; and his great-grandchild, Hudson. He is survived by his sisters Margaret Dastur and Alice Kay.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Bernadine (Dressler), brothers Larry, John, Mike, and Herb.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Gardens in Potosi. Burial with military honors at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery will be held at a later date. A private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Stephen J. Pluemer Memorial Fund has been established where donations will be made locally. Kramer-Grau Funeral Homes & Crematory in Potosi is entrusted with his care.
