John Sayers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Ipswich on Feb. 11, 2026.
It is with saddened hearts that we announce on Friday, January 23rd 2026 the passing of a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend John F. Sayers of Boxford (formerly from Ipswich) after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born in Somerville MA on Friday the 13th September 1946. He grew up in Arlington MA along with his three brothers and parents. He attended Arlington Catholic High School and was among the first graduating class. After graduating he joined the Navy and served for 6 years. He met his wife and love of his life Patricia in Arlington and married on May 7th, 1976 this year would mark 50 years of marriage. They later settled in Ipswich where their two children went to school.

He loved living on the North Shore but some of his best memories were of his family vacations on lake Winnipesaukee in Wolfeboro NH. He loved all New England sports but his favorite were his kids sporting events, never missing a game. He loved playing with his grandchildren and feeding the birds. He would love to sit on the deck and watch the birds all day. His family meant everything to him, nothing made him laugh more than watching his grandchildren playing.

John worked for the United States Postal Service at Logan Airport and often had many funny stories about the things he saw at work.

John and Patricia had two children. Their daughter Dr. Autumn Dolan married Chris Dolan and have two children of their own Shelby and Seamus. Their son Timothy Sayers and his wife Dana have two children Tadhg and River. He is survived by his two brothers Joseph and his wife Mary and Richard and wife Joanne. His sister-in-law Rita and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

John was preceded by his father Joseph Sayers, mother Margaret (Goggin) Sayers, and his brother James Sayers.

A Celebration of Life will be held in March. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Audubon Society in Topsfield MA. John will be missed by all that knew him and remembered as a kind and gentle man.
