John Robert Schie, 90, of Walnut Creek passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Walnut Hills Nursing Home in Walnut Creek following a period of declining health.
He was born on March 5, 1935 in Millersburg to the late Albert Charles and Grace Marie Farver Schie and married Sally Hostetler on February 4, 1959. She survives.
John worked in the Mining Industry for 46 years before his retirement. Following that, he remained active working at the area flea market, attending heavy equipment shows and traveling on bus trips. He was a member of the St. John's Church in Walnut Creek and served on the church consistory for many years. He served in the US Army and was an active member of the Sugarcreek Homer Weiss American Legion Post 494. Most of all though he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Sally, he survived by his sons, Mark (Monica) Schie of Hudson and Brad Schie of Baltic and grandchildren Hannah (Shane) Hartman and Lily Schie.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings Richard Schie, Harold Schie, Mary Stringer and Oneda Hall.
Private family graveside services will be held at St. John's Church Cemetery in Walnut Creek. Military honors will be conducted by the Sugarcreek American Legion Homer Weiss Post 494.
