John Schuetz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chapel Oaks Funeral Home - Hiawatha on Mar. 31, 2026.
John Barrymore "Barry" Schuetz was the youngest of three children born to John and Bonnie Schuetz. He died unexpectedly at the Sabetha Community Hospital early morning on March 30, 2026, at the age of 57.

Barry is survived by his wife Vickie and daughter Carolyn, his parents John and Bonnie, his siblings Terri and Alan Stevens and Marty and Deana Schuetz. He has 13 nieces and nephews, and 9 great nieces and nephews, that he very much cared for.

During those 57 years, Barry has accomplished, and made so many proud, especially his wife and daughter, Vickie and Carolyn Schuetz. He graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1988, and from there went to Milford Community College in Milford, NE, to get his Machinist degree. From there he worked at the family business with his father at Schuetz Tool & Die. He worked there as a magnificent machinist and welder for several years. Recently he worked at Hiawatha Middle School as a special education para, and a school bus driver.

He married his wife, Vickie Lyn Zimmers-Schuetz. They married on July 3rd, 1993, and lived a happy married life for 32 years. 12 years later they went and adopted their pride and joy. The one thing he was very proud of and taught so much stuff to is his daughter, Carolyn, who was born on June 8th, 2005. From that day he spoiled her rotten even though mom disagreed, but went along with it. Nothing could really stop him from making her happy.

He enjoyed fishing, archery, and camping with his family. He also liked Harley-Davidson's, which his daughter, Carolyn went to trade school for to be a mechanic specifically for Harley's.

Friends, family, and loved ones are invited to the visitation for 10 a.m. Monday, April 6th, at First Baptist Church in Hiawatha, KS. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. by Jim Farris. Interment will follow at Powhattan Cemetery, on the north side of Powhattan.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Barry Schuetz Memorial Fund to be designated later, sent in care of the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, KS, 124 S 7th St, 66434.
