John "Punk" S. Seamans
With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the life of John S. Seamans. John was born on April 26, 1942, to John L. and Jeanne M. Seamans in Minneapolis, MN. Our hero sadly fought his last battle on January 17, 2025, in his beloved home in Shorewood, MN.
John grew up in Minnetonka and graduated from MHS in 1960. He was all-conference in football before attending Bemidji State University on a football scholarship. From there, he went on to play preseason football with the Houston Oilers.
John retired in 2001 from sales at Zero-Max Inc. He was an exceptional coach and mentor, dedicating 25 years to coaching 7th & 8th grade football and several years to baseball, all within the Minnetonka School District. He ran the South Shore Softball League for over 5 years, earning the Minnetonka Community Ed Adult Program Volunteer of the Year award in 2008-2009. He was inducted into the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame in 2010.
John loved all sports and music (as long as it didn't include saxophone). He cherished his monthly "Coffee with the Boys" with his 1960 classmates and the annual family trip to Cragun's Resort, a tradition of 25 years.
John is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 46 years; his children Kim Johnson (Bob), John (Melissa), Matt (Wakako), Amy (Mike), and Spencer (Jennifer); grandchildren Jordan, Randi, Erika, Kenny, Colton, Emma, Leena, Shuri, Kylee, Sophia, Isla, and Ronan; and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Jim (Sylvia) and Jeff (Kathleen), sisters Jill and Joan (Terry), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and all the friends he met along the way.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 31st, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Shorewood Community & Event Center, 5735 Country Club Rd, Excelsior.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Ridgeview Foundation.
