John Sewell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Home - Walled Lake on Feb. 11, 2026.
John Sewell Sr. and Sherra Sewell, longtime residents of Highland, Michigan, are now reunited in eternal rest after a lifetime shared together in love.

Sherra June Sewell, born April 26, 1942, in Decatur, Alabama, to Jesse and Addie Louise Portwood, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025.

John Frederick Sewell Sr., born April 2, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, to William and Irene Sewell, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026.

John and Sherra were married on July 26, 1960, and shared 64 years and 11 months of unity. They were deeply devoted to one another and cherished spending time together. Their relationship was marked by love, partnership, and unwavering support.

Survived by their five children:

Jaymie (Mike), William, Addie (James), John Jr., and Sherra (Mike);

Five grandchildren:

Jessica (Jayson), Terrance (Sarah), Amanda (Dustin), Suzette, and Rachel;

and eight great-grandchildren:

William, Terrah, Audrey, Tessa, Tyler, Makayla, Tate, and Tyson.

John owned a roofing company before later working for Commercial Carriers, Inc. as a car hauler. He was known for his strong work ethic, his love of working with his hands, and his willingness to help others.

Sherra was a devoted stay-at-home mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known to many as "Aunt Sherry." She was a chauffeur, a compassionate listener, and a problem solver. She enjoyed knitting and was a source of warmth and support for those around her.

John and Sherra built a life centered on family, faith, and dedication to one another. They both enjoyed attending church, spending time with family and friends, and following Detroit sports. After retiring, they moved to Arizona, where they lived for 20 years before returning to Michigan and settling in Highland. Their legacy lives on through the generations they nurtured and the many lives they touched.
