John Sherinian Obituary

John Charles Sherinian, Sr., age 87, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, in Sacramento, California. A devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, and respected professional, John lived a life defined by dedication-to his family, his community, and his work. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lucille Sherinian.

Born on June 15, 1938, in New York City, John spent his early years in Cliffside Park, New Jersey and his teen years in Fort Lee, New Jersey, and later moved with his family to California in 1956. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of San Francisco in 1966, laying the foundation for a long and successful career in the financial and insurance industries.

John began his professional journey with Crocker Bank and then Allstate before finding his home at the Edward Brodie Insurance Company in Sacramento, rising to Assistant Vice President of Sales and retired after more than 30 years of service. His career was marked by integrity, dedication, and thoughtful care for his clients and colleagues, leaving a lasting and positive impact.

John shared a remarkable 63-year marriage with his beloved wife, Mary Anne Tarpin Sherinian. Together they built a beautiful life and raised their family in the Land Park community in Sacramento. He is survived by his wife Mary Anne, his children Suzanne (husband Matt Guzaitis), Catherine Jamison, and John (wife Sharon) Sherinian II; and his cherished sister, Carole Jouroyan.

A proud and devoted grandfather, John found immense joy in his grandchildren: Griffin (wife Kimberly), Christian, Julia, Jack, Michael, and Gabriel. He was a constant and enthusiastic presence at games and events-on sidelines, in bleachers, and in the audience-supporting every endeavor with pride and encouragement.

John's love of sports began in his youth with baseball and continued throughout his life. Though injuries ended his playing days early, his passion for sports endured through coaching youth soccer, and his enthusiastic involvement with Jesuit High School's booster club and athletic programs. He was also a lifelong Giants & 49ers Fan, tuning in to games and celebrating their big wins.

John was a generous supporter of Holy Spirit Church and School, giving both his time and resources in service to others. John also had a lifelong love of oldies rock and roll, and The Beach Boys. His happiest moments were spent traveling with family to Sea Ranch, Italy, Hawaii, Napa Valley, and enjoying meals at his favorite San Francisco restaurant, Tadich Grill.

John's legacy is one of steadfast devotion, quiet generosity, and enduring love. His memory will continue to bring comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.

A Memorial Mass will be held on December 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, 3159 Land Park Drive, Sacramento. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in remembrance.

The family is grateful to the loving care John was given by the staff at Mercy McMahon Terrace. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy McMahon Terrace in Sacramento or to a charitable causes that reflect John's spirit.

Condolences to the family from a former client of Mr. Sherinian´s wife Mary Anne Sherinian
Many fond memories of the help and professional services will never be forgotten

December 20, 2025

Dear Mary Anne, John, Kathryn and Suzanne, so sorry to hear about Johns passing. I was just notified today(December 20th), and will not be able to attend his service. Working with John was an honor and we had many fond memories building an organization. John was the “go to guy” on personal lines and he loved what he did. John joined the Agency, actually as a result of my mother claiming “he was such a nice guy maybe we should see if he wants to leave his his current job, and join a growing agency”. He came aboard and helped build a wonderful personal line client base. After selling the Agency John decided the corporate life was not his cup of tea, so he then entered retirement. Prior to retirement he loved the annual Christmas lunches, favored Biba’s, Ii Fornio and Pheasant Club. He was so proud of his kids, and occasionally the grand kids would pop in the office after hours, and hide under the desks.
John, rest in peace, you had a good journey.

John was so kind and always ready to help. It was such a pleasure to know him and get his insights into the world. I feel really blessed to have known him over the years.
