I had the pleasure of knowing John as a classmate, friend and as teammates on a Men’s League hockey team in Marshall during the late 1980’s. He will be remembered as a great classmate, trustworthy teammate, and generous friend. From my family to the Sherman family, please accept our deepest condolences. -Stephen Jacobson

I babysat John and Sue's adorable children, Andy & Sunny, all through high school and grew close to the family. The Shermans were my favorite family to babysit for. I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a very kind man and wonderful father. My deepest sympathy to his family. Denise (Stenerson) Erwin

So sorry for your loss! I had the joy of babysitting for Andy and Sunny when Sunny was first born. Sunny was my first baby I had ever cared for. My mom was a nurse with Sue and that was how I got the job. I remember the one New Year's Eve at the Sherman home and they had pop you could just fill like a restaurant. Thought that was such a luxury! You dad was such a jolly person. So young to have list him. Know you kids are in my prayers! Linda "Boyer" Nielsen (Elk River, MN, formerly of Marshall)

My deepest sympathy to the Sherman family. I have known John while I was a foreign exchange student under the Youth for Understanding program at Marshall Senior High in 1974-1975. John always had a keen interest in how I experienced life in Minnesota. Jan Delcour Leuven Belgium

We have known of John and the Sherman family through the wonderful experience of their AFS student Ziya Aras from Turkey back from the year of 1975. AFS host brothers, sister and families would not normally be part of our lives. The destiny put those sorted persons in our lives in a manner that they would be part of us. That's why it hurts so much when we lose one of them. People that touched our lives. Please take our condolences from all over the world to your AFS host family, Ziya.
