John Wayne Sherry, age 60, of Oklahoma City, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025.
John was born on August 22, 1964, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the son of Betty Stephens and John Wayne Benson. At the age of ten he was adopted by his stepfather, Roy Sherry. John graduated from Putnam City West High School in 1982 having already begun work in the flooring industry.
John started out picking up carpet scraps at the age of 11 for neighbor Bud Guthrie. The two eventually became partners in Double Clean Carpets and he also worked for Bentley’s installing carpet. John worked to become knowledgeable in his fields, taking many classes through IICRC and becoming a Master Cleaner, as well as a Master Carpet Installer through CFI. He was well-respected among others of his profession who would often seek his advice when they ran into difficulty.
John loved his family, his wife, Sandra, his son, Stephen and chosen daughter, Carmen as well as grandkids, Ayden, Joslyn and Averie.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Stephens Benson Sherry, his fathers, John Wayne Benson and William Roy Sherry, and Cousin Steve Puckett. He is survived by his wife of 27 years Sandra Manning Sherry, his son, Stephen Sherry, and grandson, Ayden Sherry, and several other cousins and family as well as the family of his heart: daughter, Carmen Pence and her partner Santon Jones, grandchildren, Joslynn Lee and Averie Jones, and sister, Tami Guthrie.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life for John will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 10:00 AM at OK Cremation & Funeral Home Chapel, 2415 N. Walnut Ave. Oklahoma City, OK.
