John Craig Shumberger, age 71, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. John was born on Saturday, September 20, 1952, in Carlisle to the late John Kenneth Shumberger and Isabel Alma (Lebo) Shumberger. In addition to his parents, is preceded in death by grandson: Colby Hamsher.
John’s survivors include his wife of 31 years, Teresa Marie (Fuoti) Shumberger; his three children: Wendy Shumberger of Dillsburg, Johnny Shumberger of Camp Hill, Jamie Shumberger of Carlisle; his step-son Andrew Mrakovich and wife, Kate, of Downingtown; his eleven grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; his two sisters: JoAnn Novinger of Mechanicsburg, Jill Souder and husband, Dan, of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Mechanicsburg Area High School as part of the class of 1970. Among several careers, he worked as a sales representative for Davis Beverage and then retired from The Arc of Cumberland & Perry Counties/CIT in 2019 working as a Supported Employment Coordinator. John was a devoted husband and father, who loved being around his family. He was known for his peanut butter, music, singing, practical jokes, his pets, and a large cup of coffee. A favorite pastime of his was spending time “tinkering” in his garage. He enjoyed fishing, watching westerns and was a diehard Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles fan. John had a passion for woodworking and making beautiful projects for family. One of the greatest joys in John’s life was having the chance to raise his grandson in their home, and being involved in his sporting activities.
All are welcome to join John’s family at his gathering of family & friends on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Marleen Elaine Griffith-Stull officiating. John’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Cremation was private.
