John Charles "Johnny" Sieczkowski, known by his grandchildren as "Papa," made his exit from the world stage on August 2, 2023. Born in San Diego, CA on March 24, 1948, he spent his 75 years on earth making people laugh, proving his resiliency in the face of challenges, and teaching many the fine art of wit. It's safe to say that John was the sort of man who could spin a yarn, tell a joke, and keep a smile on your face. If you didn't experience his humor, you missed out.
John served his country in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at DaNang, Vietnam as the Ship's diver/fireman on the USS Nereus (AS-17), earning several commendations for his bravery and service, and where he was exposed to Agent Orange from which he suffered throughout his life. After his honorable discharge, he spent many years as a Master Mechanical Technician at Ball Corporation. However, John's true passion was his family. His love for his children and grandchildren was fierce, and he was, without a doubt, the best Papa ever. His earlier years were filled with camping, hunting and fishing, but as time went on, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with family and his beloved grandchildren.
John is survived by an ensemble cast of characters who promise to keep his spirit alive through stories, laughter, and probably a few well-timed jokes. His ex-wife, Judy Vanderwood, his children, Janelle Shields and Jason Sieczkowski, his grandchildren, Bryson, Kierstyn, Nova, Cassandra, and Tessa, and his much-loved sisters, Kathy Vargas (Dick), Julie Pascoe (Tom) and Lisa Ramirez (Rich), along with many nieces and nephews, will continue to remember him for the larger-than-life figure he was. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Doris Sieczkowski, who will be welcoming their boy home with open arms.
John's final curtain call will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 12:00 pm MDT at the Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 2850 North Street, Ogden, Utah, 84414. The dress code is casual, come as you are.
