John Sowa Obituary
We sadly announce the passing of Retired TSgt John J. Sowa age 78 of Coventry, CT. John was born on February 15th, 1947, in Torrington, CT to the late Sigmund and Eugenia Sowa (Rzeczkowski).
John served as a Marine for three years and fought for one tour in the Vietnam War. After being a civilian for a short time, John enlisted in the United States Air Force serving for 20 years. After retirement, he settled in Collinsville, CT with his wife Shelia and their two sons. He was widowed and later married Carol Gordon-Sowa of Bloomfield, CT.
He loved NASCAR, gardening, fishing with his sons, tinkering and working on projects around his home. One of John’s favorite past times was spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved entertaining his family.
John will be missed by his sons and step-sons: Brian Sowa and his wife Becky of Bristol, Kevin Sowa of Coventry, Robert Gordon of Bloomfield, Scott Gordon of Suffield, and Brian Gordon and his wife Sharon of Cheshire. In addition, his grandchildren Charlotte and Madelyn Sowa, and Sarah, Ryan and Shannon Gordon. He also leaves his brother, Robert Sowa of Collinsville.
Aside from his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife Shelia Sowa and his second wife Carol Gordon-Sowa.
Per John’s wishes, there will be no services, and burial will be held at a later date.
