John Speegle Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 11, 2025.
John D. Speegle, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, returned to his Heavenly Father on November 30, 2025. Born on March 30, 1946, John lived a life marked by faith, integrity, learning, and honor. He touched countless lives throughout his 79 years.

John was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 54 years, Dianne Barbour Speegle, and by his son, Joseph D. Speegle, with whom he now joyfully reunites. He is survived by his children: J. Darren Speegle, Jennifer Speegle Browning (Anthony Browning), Joshua Speegle, Jessica Speegle Tanner (Kirk Tanner), and Deborah Speegle Kooyman (Douglas Kooyman), as well as his sisters: Sadie Robertson, Wanda Harris, and Juanita McSherdon (Carson McSherdon). His posterity includes a rich legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who love him dearly and continue to be shaped by his example.

Drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War, John honorably served his country. He worked for many years as a typesetter and later with the U.S. Department of Defense teaching mathematics on military bases in the Philippines and Germany.

John found great joy in traveling, cycling, and hiking the world over. He delighted in playing bridge and generously shared his passions with friends and family.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, John served faithfully in many callings, including Branch President, Bishop, Stake Presidency counselor, and as a Patriarch. He was actively serving a full-time mission at the time of his passing-a fitting testament to the dedication and discipleship that defined his life. His character reflects the spirit of 1 Nephi 3: "I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded..."

John was, in every sense, a loving, selfless, spiritual, and intelligent man. His presence brought joy. His life brought goodness. His example will continue to bless generations. He will be deeply missed.

A graveside memorial service for family members will be held in Alabama in the coming weeks.
