John Stancati, 70 years old, and a longtime resident of Jackson, NJ passed away on December 15, 2025, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after a valiant battle with cancer. John was born on July 26, 1955, in Calabria, Italy, to the late Orfeo and Iolanda DeLuca Stancati. John's journey brought him to the United States, where he established a life marked by dedication, love, and a remarkable work ethic.
John was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Eddie, Antonio, and Francis Stancati; his nephews, Joseph, Victor, and Mark Stancati; his niece, Lisa Stancati; his brother-in-law, Antonio Martillotti; and his father-in-law, Peter C. Calcutta.
John's legacy continues through his beloved family, he leaves behind his devoted wife of 38 years, Denise E. Calcutta Stancati, his son, John "JP" Stancati and wife Marie; his daughter, Jaclyn Stancati Teixeira and husband Cassio; his adored grandchildren, Giovanni "Gio" Stancati, Bella Stancati, and the soon-to-arrive Ayla Teixeira; his mother-in-law, Johanna Calcutta; his brother, Victor Stancati and wife Maryann; his sisters, Josephine Martillotti and Nerina Stancati; his sisters-in-law, Frances and Judy Stancati; his brother-in-law, Peter M. Calcutta and wife Gretchen; his sister-in-law, Dawn Eckel; brother-in-law, Gregory Lamont and many nephews, nieces and friends.
John's professional life was as robust and enduring as the structures he helped build. Starting his career in masonry with the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union in 1987, he dedicated two decades to his craft before retiring from the Union in 2007. John founded JPS Masonry in Jackson, NJ in 2008, where he continued to apply his expertise. In 2010 his son JP joined him, not only to manage the business but also to mentor him to learn a valuable skillset he had acquired over the past 23 years of involvement in the trade. Together they worked side by side, sharing knowledge and experience, until his official retirement in 2021. His work not only stands as a testament to his skill, but it also showed the pride he took in his craft.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was a master gardener, cultivating a rich array of vegetables and herbs. His meticulous care extended to his property, which he maintained with precision and pride. He also loved going on many family vacations to both Cancun and Jamaica. A man of diverse interests, John enjoyed the simple pleasures of watching TV and action movies, following Newsmax, and was a staunch supporter of President Trump.
Those who knew John would describe him as loving, thoughtful, and incredibly handy. He was the kind of man who could fix anything, build anything, and grow anything. His hands were rarely still, and his heart was always full. John's presence was a source of strength, and his death will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him as a husband, a father, a Nonno, and an uncle.
As we bid farewell to John, we celebrate a life lived with passion, purpose, and an abundance of love. His spirit, characterized by resilience and kindness, will continue to inspire and guide us. John's story is one of a life well-lived, and his memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1-3pm at Oliverie Funeral Home, 125 S. Cooks Bridge Rd., Jackson, NJ with a prayer service to follow at 3pm.
