JOHN T. STANCIL - Central John Thomas Stancil, 98, of 3129 Six Mile Highway, crossed over to his heavenly home Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Mr. Stancil was born September 30, 1907 to Milton Edward and Mary Jane Sentell Stancil of Pickens County. He retired from the Foresty Department of Clemson University. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church; he also played semi-professional baseball with the Pickens County Textile League in the 1930's and 1940's. He was the oldest surviving member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter: Brenda S. Law and husband, Steve, of Central; sons: Wayne Stancil and wife Darlene of Central and Carl Stancil and wife Rachel of Pendleton; grandchildren: Leah Masterson of Elizabethtown, NC, Christy McCall of Liberty, SC, Perry Stancil of Westminister, SC, Monty Stancil of Easley and Alan Putnam of Central; step-grandchildren: Jason Law of Taylors and Stacy Bennett of Ackworth, GA and eight great-granchildren; and 3 step great-grandchildren; a brother Roy Stancil of Six Mile, SC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stancil was predeceased by his first wife, Geneva Peek Stancil and second wife, Ruby Holliday Stancil; three children: Helma, Dwight and Jack Stancil; brothers: Dave, Ralph, George, Leo, Cleo, Joe and James and a sister Lelia Porter. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 3pm in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central with ministers Rev. Alvin Crooks, Rev. Bob Dickard and Monty Stancil, Burial will follow in the Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1-2:45pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Oconee Memorial Hospital Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672. The family would like to express their gratitude to special friends, Ms. Wilma Kelly, Ms. Martha Watson and Linda Crenshaw for visits, calls and unlimited support to the family. Also a special thanks to Patty Nelson, RN of Hospice of the Foothills, for the caring attention given to Mr. Stancil and support to the family. Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
