John Stanton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Peterson Chapel – Buffalo on Feb. 8, 2026.
John Terrance "Terry" Stanton, known lovingly to family and friends as Terry, was born on December 12, 1948, in Illinois. He spent his early years in Peoria before his family eventually settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota-a place that became home for the rest of his life.

Terry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and is a Vietnam War veteran. Stationed in Thailand, he worked as a jet engine mechanic, a role that suited his sharp mind, work ethic, and quiet confidence. His service was a defining part of who he was, and one he carried with humility and pride.

After his military service, Terry graduated from the University of Minnesota and built a successful career in computers and IT sales. He was known not only for his professional accomplishments, but for his quick wit, easy conversation, and rare ability to make people feel like close friends-often within minutes of meeting them. People trusted him-hence the name "Honest John"-and they enjoyed being around him.

Terry's Catholic faith guided his life. He lived generously, served his church faithfully, and spent many years as president of the men's club at St. Thomas, where he found joy in fellowship and service. Faith and family were at the center of everything he did.

Of all his roles, Terry treasured being a Dad and Papa. He loved summers at the campground, surrounded by family, friends, and laughter. He made it his mission to ensure his children and grandchildren always knew how deeply they were loved. One of his favorite games began with a simple question-"Guess what?"-followed by the words they would never forget: "Daddy loves you" and "Papa loves you." He taught his children that you can never say "I love you" too much, and he lived that lesson every day. This tradition was not only spoken, but passed down, becoming part of the family's legacy.

Terry is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Stanton; his children John Stanton (Elisabeth), Katheryn Drews (Nathan), and Amanda Kaminski (Eric); and his grandchildren Lily, Elijah, John, Ellie, Maddie, Henry, Rosie, Gwen, Charlotte, and Mary, each of whom he adored deeply.

He is also survived by his siblings Maura Stanton (Richard Cecil), Michael Stanton (Kathy), James Stanton (Su), Carol Stanton, Jane Stanton, Sharon Stanton, Kevin Stanton (Leslie Mallery), and Ellen Stanton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Wanda Stanton.
