John Stauber Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home on Dec. 1, 2025.
John Stauber passed away peacefully on the evening of November 24, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family and friends who knew him well. Born on June 10, 1947, at Cumberland Hospital in Kings County, Brooklyn, NY, John was the beloved son of William Stauber and Georginia Boylan. He was 78 years old.

John spent many decades as part of the Citizen Advocates family, a place where he formed deep connections and lived a full, meaningful life. Over the years, John participated in countless outings, holiday celebrations, and community events, each one leaving behind memories treasured by those who shared them with him. Whether it was attending local fairs, enjoying picnics in the summer sun, or celebrating birthdays with his housemates, John embraced these moments in his own quiet way.

He enjoyed the simple joys of life. Sitting in his recliner and watching the birds outside his window was one of his favorite pastimes. He had an appreciation for nature-especially birds-and would spend time peacefully observing them.

Although he tended to be reserved, John had a presence that filled a room. He will be most remembered for his unmistakable, powerful laugh-deep, warm, and impossible to miss. When John laughed, it echoed through the house and brought smiles to everyone around him. That laugh became a part of the home itself, a sound that will be dearly missed.

John also had a kind, gentle spirit. He valued routine, enjoyed familiar comforts, and found happiness in daily rituals, listened to music from his favorite decades, and spent quiet evenings with those he trusted. He was known for his soft-hearted nature and the way he showed affection in the smallest, most genuine gestures.

Throughout his life, John built bonds with many of the staff who supported him and the friends he lived with, relationships marked by trust, respect, and deep affection. His Citizen Advocates family watched him grow, age, and find joy in his own unique way, and his absence leaves a lasting emptiness for all who cared for him.

A time for visitation will be held at St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home, in Malone and will start at 10 am followed by a prayer service at 11 am.

You may be gone from our sight, John, but you will never be gone from our hearts.

Rest Easy, Dear John.

John loved a good train ride in the open air! At Old Forge, when the engineer opened up the throttle and we steamed ahead enough to make a breeze, John raised up in his seat and laughed his head off. (Thankfully his hat stayed on)
