John A. Steltenpohl, 85, of Chippewa Falls, passed peacefully under the care of Interim Hospice at Our House Senior Living on Sunday, July 21,2024.
On April 29, 1939, John was born to Alvin and Orphie (Johnson) Steltenpohl in York, WI. He graduated from Harlem High School with the class of 1957. He attended Weeden’s Barber College in Chicago, graduated in 1960 and worked as a barber until his retirement. John was united in marriage to Josie Labasan on November 19, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois. John was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed training dogs and hunting with them, sailing, and just enjoying nature. He served on the church council and taught confirmation. He joined the Optimists and Big Brothers.
John is survived by his wife, Josie; son, James (Susan Rada); daughter, Jill (Jeffrey) Gentry; grandchildren, Kira (William) Hansche, Arik Fox, Maxwell Fox and Danielle Gentry; great-grandson, Samson Hansche; siblings, Muriel Harper, Dalean (Donald) Steponik, David (LeAnn) Steltenpohl and Darrell Steltenpohl; along with many other loving family and friends, and his precious dog Zima.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepparents, Gordon Whitehead and Christie Steltenpohl; sisters, Ruth Loane and Theresa Steltenpohl; and brothers, Jerome Steltenpohl and Randall Whitehead.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, 467 E Colome St, Chippewa Falls, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Rev. Gregory D. Stenzel will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family which will be donated to a charity of one’s choice.
