John Stikeleather Obituary

John Grier Stikeleather Sr., 86, a native of Rowan County, North Carolina, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, part owner and developer of Forest Heights Shopping Center and founder of Stikeleather Building Company, died at Iredell Memorial Hospital on the evening of Friday, October 26, 2001, following several months of illness. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 28, 2001, 7-8:30 p.m., at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, 705 Davie Avenue, Statesville, North Carolina. Lying in state on Monday, October 29, 1:30-2 p.m., at Oakland Presbyterian Church. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, 2 p.m., at the church, officiated by the Rev. Steve Stipes. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Full military rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Post No. 2031, Harold Littlefield Chapter No. 68 of the D.A.V., and American Legion Post No. 217. Memorial donations are appreciated to Oakland Presbyterian Church, 531 North Oakland Avenue, Statesville, NC 28677 or Alzheimers Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215. Arrangements entrusted to Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, Statesville, North Carolina.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of Grandpa Stikeleather. I have many fond memories of him and your family as I grew up being the best of friends with Lara. You are all in my thoughts during this time of sorrow.

To Grandma,Johnny,Joan,Robin and my wonderful Debbie: I am so blessed to be a part of this family. You mean to much to me. We will miss Grandpa. He was a wonderful man and dedicated husband,dad and grandpa. You are in my prayers. May God Bless You and remember Jesus is you tower of refuge, you can always depend on him. I love all of you.
