Robert L. "Bob" Stikeleather, a cherished pillar of his community and a beacon of warmth and wisdom, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on December 27, 1934, in Newton, MA, Bob was the son of the late Robert and Margaret (Engelhorn) Stikeleather. He was the beloved husband of Florence (Moses) Stikeleather, with whom he shared a profound and enduring love.
A proud graduate of Roxbury Latin High School, Bob's commitment to education led him to further his studies at Harvard College and Columbia University. His intellectual curiosity and love of learning were traits that he carried throughout his life and instilled in his children. Between his studies, he served in the United States Army in Germany. Bob's professional journey was marked by a successful tenure as the former owner and operator of Merchants Wine and Spirits in Boston's Financial District. In 1995, he channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into founding Stikeleather Real Estate in Holbrook, where he served Holbrook and the South Shore communities as owner and operator for 30 years.
Bob's life was underpinned by an unwavering dedication to his family. He was the loving father of Shepard Long of Plymouth, Derek Stikeleather of Pikesville, MD, Laura Stikeleather of Waltham, and Catherine of Seattle, WA. He took immense joy in his role as Grandpa to Robert, Erin, Clark, Cameron, Anika, and Amelia, and his legacy of kindness and passion will live on through them. His family's growth also included the many nieces, nephews, and friends who survive him, each touched by his generosity and humor.
Bob's zest for life was evident in his varied interests. An avid reader, he loved nothing more than immersing himself in a good book, and his gift for storytelling was complemented by a treasure trove of one-liners that never failed to bring laughter to a room. His passion for education was not just a personal pursuit; he dedicated himself to providing his four children with world-class educations, a testament to his belief in the transformative power of learning.
Summers in Maine held a special place in Bob's heart, as they offered precious moments of relaxation and reflection. These tranquil periods were balanced by the joy he found in the company of family and friends, with whom he shared many a good meal and conversation. Bob's infectious sense of humor, loving nature, and passionate spirit made him a beloved figure to all who knew him.
In every facet of his life, Bob was a man of exceptional character. His kindness was a comforting presence, and his passion was an inspiration. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the unwavering belief in the value of education. Bob's memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his stories, wisdom, and warmth will be sorely missed.
