Dwight Nevins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cartwright Funeral Home - Holbrook on Feb. 4, 2026.
Dwight Lee Nevins, of Holbrook, passed peacefully in the same home where his story began, surrounded by the people who loved him most on February 2, 2026. After a brave and determined battle with esophageal cancer-fought with grit, stubbornness, and a few well-timed jokes-Dwight decided it was his time to rest. He was the devoted son of the late L. Alden and A. Mildred (Nelson) Nevins.

A lifelong Holbrook resident, Dwight proudly held the unofficial title of "Mayor of Brookville," widely recognized as the true capital of Holbrook. If you lived there, visited there, or accidentally drove through there, chances are you knew Dwight-or at least felt like you did after five minutes of talking with him.

Dwight leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 45 beautiful years, Barbara (Miller) Nevins, of Brockton, MA. Together they built a life full of laughter, friendship, and family, and raised two children whom Dwight loved fiercely.

He is survived by his daughter Alison (Nevins) Greene, of Corinth, Vermont, her husband Aaron Greene and their dog, his grand-dog, Walter. He is also survived by his son Robert Nevins, of Hanson, MA, and his wife Katherine (Gramz) Nevins.

Dwight was a proud and devoted "Grumpy" to his beloved granddaughters, Anastasia (8) and Theadora (5), who were the absolute lights of his life. If there was a swing set nearby, Dwight was on it with them-usually pushing them higher than anyone thought was reasonable. He also leaves behind his cherished Golden-Doodle, Jemma Eve, who rarely left his side.

Dwight is also survived by his sister-in-law Patricia (Miller) Rankin, and her children: Jason Rankin and his wife Kate, their sons Raymond and Andrew; Kimberly (Rankin) Holmes and her husband Brian, and their son Ethan; and Kristin Rankin-Smith and her husband Drake. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Bob Rankin. Family meant everything to Dwight, and he loved and supported them in every way he knew how.

Dwight was the light in every room he entered. He believed there were no strangers-just friends he hadn't met yet-and somehow made everyone feel like they were already part of his ever-growing, carefully collected family. If you left a conversation with Dwight without smiling, it probably meant you hadn't finished the conversation yet.

He was a skier back in the day, a motorcycle enthusiast, a car guru, and an enthusiastic amateur mechanic. Dwight loved taking the long way anywhere-what should have been a two-hour drive easily became four, thanks to scenic detours, side quests, and conversations with complete strangers. And somehow, it was always worth it.

He was a proud member of the Yankee Beemers Motorcycle Club, where he made lifelong friends. He and Barbara were proud members of the Victor Luv Ski Club from the 1980's through the 2000's. True to form, he stayed friends with nearly everyone he met along the way.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Memorial Visitation at Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St., Holbrook, MA, on Friday, February 13th, from 3:00–8:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at Brookville Bible Church on Saturday, February 14th, at 11:00 AM. The family will be having a private burial at a later date and time.

In typical Dwight fashion, he had required this be a true celebration of his life and requested that no one wears any dark or dismal colors. Please dig deep into your closets and pull out the most colorful, brightest, sparkly, orange-ist, and/or tie-dye attire you've been saving for that perfect moment. Funny graphic T-shirts are also highly encouraged as they were always his favorite. Dwight will surely be looking down on us all with the biggest smile.

In lieu of flowers, Dwight requested donations be made to the Holbrook Council on Aging, Brookville Bible Church, or the Yankee Beemers Motorcycle Club-because even in passing, he wanted to make sure his people, and his communities were taken care of.

Dwight will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever talked about-probably at length, and most definitely with laughter.

I knew Dwight most of my life. We grew up in the same neighborhood of Brookville. I myself and my family still live in the same house I grew up in right down the corner from him.
He was cheerful, helpful, and always ready to give me a hug. He will be greatly missed by me and my family. Every time I see a rainbow I will think of him. XOXO to you all !!

Loving, joyful, and delightful, Dwight showered everyone around him, with those emotions. When I think of Dwight, I see him coming towards me with his arms outstretched, ready to embrace me and with a big smile. That's how Dwight greeted life, he embraced it with delight.
My dearest condolences to Barbara, Alison and Robert, and all who loved Dwight. We all have endless wonderful memories to look back on, once we stop crying.

Condolences to the family. I worked with Dwight at State Street Bank. He truly did light up a room when he entered. He was a gatherer of people, a friend maker. Although we all will miss him, he now dwells in the light of the Lord.
