Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cartwright Funeral Home - Holbrook on Feb. 20, 2026.
Francis R. "Buddy" Fredericks, of Holbrook, a cherished beacon of love and strength, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on February 18, 2026, at the age of 96. Born in Boston on January 25, 1930, Buddy was the son of the late John and Ruth (Jordan) Fredericks and the devoted husband of the late Eleanor (O'Donnell) Fredericks. His life was a testament to the enduring bonds of family, the joy of friendship, and the satisfaction of a life well-lived.
Buddy's legacy is carried on by his loving children: Ruth Mahoney of Avon, Richard Fredericks of Kingston, Robert Fredericks of Acushnet, Susan O'Leary of E. Falmouth, John "Jack" Fredericks of
Freedom, NH, Debra Chiusano of
Sarasota, FL, and James Fredericks of Bridgewater. Each of his children reflects a piece of Buddy's kindhearted and spirited nature. As a cherished Papa, his wisdom and humor will live on through his grandchildren Kelly, Joseph, Tami, Courtney, Richard, Amy, Jaryn, Ryan, Benjamin, Robert, Brian, Patrick, Suzanne, Sean, Merrideth, Brett, Joseph, Emily-Kate, Lori-Ann, James, and Brittany. His role as Great Papa to Zachary, Noah, Brody, Olivia, Joseph, Jacqueline, Elizabeth, Robert, Anastacia, Nicholas, Nicole, Christian, Savannah, and many other great-grandchildren was one he held with immense pride and joy.
After graduating from Hyde Park High School, he enlisted in the United States Marines and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Buddy's commitment to his community was evidenced by his more than 25 years of dedicated service as a Deputy Sheriff for Norfolk County House of Correction. His unwavering sense of duty and his friendly demeanor left a lasting impact on all those he worked with.
Buddy's zest for life was apparent in his many passions. He was a man who found solace on the waters aboard his beloved boat, the "Eleanor T." His love for boating was matched only by his enthusiasm for fishing and cheering on his favorite Boston sports teams. Fitness and martial arts played a significant part in his life; he was not only an exercise enthusiast but also a respected black belt in karate, practicing his moves with grace and agility until his last days.
An active member of the Holbrook Gun Club, Buddy enjoyed the camaraderie and challenge of ax throwing. However, it was the simple pleasures that brought him the most happiness-like the lively Sunday dinners followed by football games with his family, moments that became cherished traditions.
Buddy's home was a hub of love and activity, especially with his great-grandchildren Nicole and her husband Carlos, Noah, Christian, and Savannah, who lived with him. Their care and companionship made his final years not only comfortable but filled with laughter and warmth.
Described by those who knew him as loving, kind, and friendly, Buddy's presence was a gift to all. His smile, his generous spirit, and his ability to make every person feel like the most important in the room will be dearly missed.
As we bid farewell to Francis R. "Buddy" Fredericks, we celebrate a life that was rich in experiences and abundant in love. We honor a man who taught us the importance of family, the value of hard work, and the joy of living each day to the fullest. His memory will continue to guide and inspire us, and his legacy will be cherished for generations to come.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, February 28th, at 10:00 AM in St. Michael Church, 87 No. Main St.,
