John Stone Obituary
John E. Stone, 91, of Holiday Shores, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026 at his residence.
He was born on August 23, 1934, in Nebo, IL, the son of the late Roy E. and Ora M. (White) Stone. He married Doris J. (Shaw) on June 27, 1953 in Nebo, IL, she passed away on November 15, 2018.
John was employed at Olin Corp as a supervisor 37 years. He enjoyed water skiing, hunting, boating and loved the water. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his two children and their spouses, Larry (Dana) Stone of Fosterburg and Jeanne (Richard) Gvillo Jr. of Holiday Shores; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Jon (Sami) Brenner, Jeremy (Danielle) Brenner, Jaime (Jason) Sanders, Brandt (Heather) Gvillo, Amanda (Richard) Schroeder, Dale Hanneken, Kaylee (Braeden) Stone and Blake (Ryleigh) Stone; eighteen great-grandchildren, Hazel, Aaron, McKayla, Dawson, Jackson, Kerrigan, Lucy H., Ben, Avery, Dominic, Lucy N., Anabelle, Dax, Keaton, Liam, Walker, Miles and Bowen; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley Hanneken; two brothers, Jess and Charles and two sisters, Irene and Mary.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 2:00 pm until the service at 4:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, with Dave Wilkerson officiating.
Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church in Bethalto.
