John F. Stygar, 78 of Maryville, IL, born December 25, 1946, in East St. Louis, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at his home.
A proud graduate of East St. Louis High School, Class of 1964, and Rankin Technical Institute,1970.
John went on to dedicate his life to craftsmanship, service, and community. He served honorably in the United States Army for two years before returning home to pursue his career as a skilled pipefitter with Pipefitters Local 562. A proud union man, he took great pride in his work and the bonds he built over the years.
As an avid car enthusiast, John was a member of the Looking Glass Corvette Club, where he shared his love for that classic car and the camaraderie. He was also a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus, always committed to service and brotherhood.
Whether he was watching a St. Louis Cardinals game, working under the hood of a car, or telling stories from his days of growing up in E. St. Louis, John brought joy, loyalty, and humor to all who knew him. His hands built not only engines but memories-lasting impressions that will carry on in the hearts of his loved ones.
He was preceded by his parents: Stanley and Oleta (nee McNabb] Stygar.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Belle McMackin, whom he married on January 12, 2001; daughter, Kelly Stygar Hegehold; step-son, Matt (Kristin) Feldmann, step-daughter, Sarah (Brian) Eich; five grandchildren: Keegan Allen Eich, Kiersten Rose (nee Eich) Staniszewski, Ella Jane Feldmann, Vel Feldmann, and Madeline Feldmann; a great-grandchild, Charlie Jamison Staniszewski; and brother, Paul (Mickey) Stygar, nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service at 11:30 am on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.
Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in a private family ceremony at a later date.
Donations may be made to Mary Belle McMackin to help establish a memorial park bench in John's honor and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
