SULLIVAN, John B., Jr,. 98, of West Roxbury, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2023. Born January 12, 1925, John was the beloved husband of 48 years to the late Virginia M. (Halligan). John was the father of John H. Sullivan of Long Beach, California, Paul M. Sullivan and his wife Clare of Wrentham, Mark E. Sullivan and his wife Joan of Reading, Gary J. Sullivan and his wife Patrice of West Roxbury, Carol A. Bukuras and her husband Gary of Scituate, Peter A. Sullivan and his wife Joan of North Easton, Steven J. Sullivan and his late wife Lori of Stoughton, and Charles D. Sullivan and his wife Jeanette of Stoughton. John was the devoted brother of the late Frank Sullivan, Florence Krol, Rosemary Sullivan, Eileen Coates and Joseph Sullivan. He was also the proud patriarch of 16 grandchildren, one angel, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
John grew up in Brighton, Massachusetts and proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He continued his service to his country and to his city by joining the Boston Police Department. After a successful stint on the BPD, John accepted an appointment as Chief Court Officer at the West Roxbury District Court where he served for several decades until his retirement.
John was a quiet man who, along with his wife, highly valued education and instilled that ideal in his children. In retirement, John thoroughly enjoyed his loving family and especially using his craftsmanship, carpentry and construction skills in various projects to improve his own home as well as the homes and properties of his children. May John's memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a memorial in the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury on Wednesday, July 12. Visitation is at 10:00 a.m. with a Service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment at Saint Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury will take place following the service.
In lieu of flowers, and to honor our veterans, donations in John's memory may be made to the American Red Cross.
