John Sybenga Obituary
John was proud to be a projectionist at the old Rivola theater in Oskaloosa and enjoyed collecting film memorabilia and creating and restoring projectors, film equipment and technical materials. All those who knew John remember him as a talented inventor, friend and mentor. He had a scientific curiosity, researched insects (especially lightning bugs) and was a veteran amateur astronomer and a very capable machinist, even constructing telescopes and specialized lenses. He was helpful and kind to his many friends in Oskaloosa, Eddyville and Ottumwa, and later in Sun City, Arizona.
John is survived by his brother David Sybenga and many friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
A service will be planned for a later date, and John will be laid to rest in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
