John Edward Talbert, 67, of Battle Creek, Michigan, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday February 22, 2024. He was born on December 17, 1956 in Jackson, Michigan to Rick Talbert and Harriet (Lee) Bachelder.
John graduated from Parkside High School in Jackson, class of 1975. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was medically, honorably discharged from the Navy in 1977. (He continued to use outpatient services of the Battle Creek VA hospital for the remainder of his life.) After being discharged from the Navy, John lived with his family in Jackson until he was in his early thirties. He then married the love of his life, Laurrie Wallace in 1988 and moved to Homer, MI. After marrying and having a daughter (Rebecca Talbert), John moved his family and ultimately settled down in Battle Creek.
John is survived by his daughter, Rebecca (Richard) Talbert of Battle Creek; granddaughters, Iella and Ivy; father, Rick (Jan) Talbert of Jackson; sister, Connie (Randy) Maitland of East Grand Rapids; sister, Marilyn (Chris) Magsig of Leslie; brother, Craig (Kelly) Talbert of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his mother, Harriet Bachelder.
John devoted his life to "spreading the gospel". His two favorite things were Jesus and Jamocha shakes from Arby's. He would spread the word of Jesus to anyone that would listen. John was a good man who was loved by many. He will be missed and his memory will live on.
The family would like to thank Morris AFC home for caring for John and showing him love in his final time on this earth.
Services will be held at the Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
