Chassell
John A. Tapani, age 75 of Chassell, MI passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at home in his favorite chair. He was born in Hancock, MI on May 1, 1949, the son of Allen J. and Elizabeth “Betty” (Rothenburger) Tapani. John was an Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War. John worked 40 years and 2 days at Certainteed in L’Anse. John was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. John was a hockey coach and volunteer for numerous years for the L’Anse Hockey Association. He coached the 1989 PeeWee VFW State Champion hockey team. John was a local strawberry farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchild.
John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Beverly, his children Jason (Carrie) Tapani, Shawn “Biccu” (Shari) Tapani, and Kelly Tapani, his grandchildren JLyn Jorgenson, Alana Jorgenson (Cole Smaka), Landen (Anna) Mattson and their son Otto, Tucker Tapani, and Teegan Tapani, and his sister Ruthann (Ed) Lindgren, and brothers Ron (Roberta) Tapani, and Dave Tapani and various nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters Michele Tapani Lane and Susie Walitalo, and brother Gary Tapani.
The family will greet friends for visitation starting at 12:00 p.m. until 1 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel in Chassell, on Monday, October 23, 2023. A small service will follow from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Soren Schmidt.
