I grew up in Savannah, GA and was in the 7th grade with him at White Bluff Elementary School and then at Jenkins High School, both of us graduating in 1964. He was a great player on the high school basketball team and always had a smile for anyone he met, so it's no wonder he was good at sales and the ministry. A true leader and family man, someone you would want your children to emulate.

My heart is broken for you and your family in the loss of John. At the same time, I rejoice for John in his meeting with Jesus in Heaven. John lived a dedicated life of service to his savior, his family, his church and to all of us who knew him. My prayers are with you at this time and forever. Love, Wanda

John loved to watch his two grandson,the Newman boys play baseball.John loved the game.I am sure the boys will miss their granddad.Rest in peace brother.

I remember John from the 7th grade at White Bluff elementary school on thru high school at Jenkins High. Was a gifted student and basketball player and was always a gentleman with a wide smile for everyone he met.

To Mrs. Jean and family, I had the privilege of serving with Bro. John as a deacon for many years. We visited nursing homes and shut-ins many times together and I learned how faithful he was to the Lord and how thoughtful and caring he was to others. He was a mentor and a friend. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Bro. John will surely be missed but God has a faithful servant who is home now.

Saddened to be reading this. John was a few years older, but we grew up in the same neighborhood area. I remember him being one of the nicer "older guys" and quite a basketball player. Deepest Sympathy to the family and friends RIP
