John Edmund Thompson Jr.

John Edmund Thompson Jr., 77, passed peacefully, June 9, 2024, surrounded by his family, on a beautiful, bright Sunday afternoon.
John was born May 15, 1947, in Lebanon, Indiana to John and Geraldine (Jerry) Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 47 years, Judith Thompson, and his sister Jane Garcia. His children, son, Kevin (and Lynn) O'Brien, daughter, Erin (and John) Odell and his son Jim (and Melissa) O'Brien. His grandchildren, Keegan, Katie, Molly, Riley, step grandchildren Wyatt and Eli.
John grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. A graduate of Western High School and honorably served in the United States Navy. He worked at International Harvester in Louisville and eventually at Johnson Controls (Kentucky and North Carolina), until retiring, as production manager in 2009 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Upon retiring, John and Judy returned to Zionsville to be closer to family and friends that he so loved. John and Judy traveled often, after retirement, on what they called their "big adventures", played golf together, and enjoyed their yearly trip to Wabana Lake in Minnesota every summer. Fishing and sports were some of his biggest passions, but what he loved the most was being with his wife and children and grandchildren making important memories, especially as a "world-class" angler! Most of all, he was just a good man.
A visitation will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 12:00-4:00 pm at Simplicity Funeral and Cremation Care, 125 West Sycamore Street, Zionsville, IN 46077.
