Mr. John David Thyen, age 75, a resident of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday February 11, 2025, at Parkridge Medical Center, in Chattanooga, TN. A visitation will be held on Friday February 14, 2025 from 1:30-3:30 PM, at Heritage Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 3:30 PM. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens.
John was born in Cincinnati, OH, to the late John Henry Thyen and Freda Lester Thyen. He married the love of his life and best friend Sandra Doolan Thyen and they celebrated fifty-five years together. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved his family tremendously. He enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, Sandra. John had a true servants heart and loved helping others, this led to him joining the Columbia Lions Club where he served many roles; Former President of Middle TN Lions Sight Service, former District Governor from 2021-2022, Former President of the Columbia Club, and currently was serving as secretary for the Columbia Lions Club. A jack of all trades, he was handy and skilled in numerous ways, always fixing things around the house. John will be missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, John Michael (Jill) Thyen, Robert (Holly) Thyen, Richard (Melissa) Thyen, grandchildren, Monica (Katie) Thyen, Casey Thyen, Kayla Thyen, Kelsey Thyen, Alissa Thyen, John Robert Thyen, Will Dugger, Daniel Dugger, and Mikayla (Jayden) Mosley, three great grandchildren, sisters, Sandra (Kenneth) Shriver and Margaret (Steven) Plogsted, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Gibbs and Arthur Gibbs.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are members of the Lions Club.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Columbia Lions Club in memory of John.
