John Steadham Timmons, a beloved resident of Rowena, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29th, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on March 19th, 1946, in Edison, Georgia, John lived a life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and community.
John was a devoted member of Arlington Baptist Church, where he found spiritual fulfillment and lifelong friendships. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life, and he was actively involved in church activities, serving as a respected member of the congregation. John was recently presented a certificate for 69 years of perfect Sunday School attendance.
John dedicated much of his life to researching and documenting all aspects of Early County and the surrounding areas. His work was published in several historical books and his research has been used by many individuals and organizations. Thanks to all the staff at Lucy Hilton Memorial Library in Blakely who helped John grow his passion for learning. John was also a proud and faithful supporter of Southwest Georgia Academy in Damascus, GA.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Hodge Timmons Sr. and Lucille Daniels Timmons, as well as his brothers, Frank Daniels Timmons, Sr. and Jimmie Hodge Timmons, Jr. He is survived by his loving nephews, Frank Daniels Timmons, Jr. of Columbus, GA, and Jimmy Timmons (Tera) of Fortson, GA; his cherished nieces, Elizabeth Cartledge (Mason) of Columbus, GA, and Alex Boyd (William) of Thomaston; and his dear sisters-in-law, Betsy Timmons of Salem, AL, and Lorraine Timmons of Watkinsville, GA.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Arlington Baptist Church on Sunday, August 31st, 2025, at 2:00 pm. A funeral service to celebrate John's life will follow at 3:00 pm, officiated by Dr. Van Power and Dr. Gary Hadden. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Mike Williams, Sidney Madray, Larry Worsley, Jimmy Timmons, Ashley Madray, and Hank Jester. The deacons of Arlington Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Arlington Baptist Church, 17382 Highland Avenue South, Arlington, GA 39813, in memory of John.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home. John Steadham Timmons will be remembered for his unwavering faith, and the love he shared with his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
