John Stephen Traylor, born February 11, 1968, passed away peacefully at home on February 15,
2026, in
Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 58.
Steve was a man known for his big heart and gentle nature. An incredibly kind person, he had
genuine warmth, deep empathy, and a selfless desire to uplift others. His infectious smile and
contagious laugh spread easily and brought light into any room. He was truly the center of any
gathering, with his quick wit and a gift for telling stories.
He enjoyed playing baseball and basketball at an early age and grew to become a profound
sports enthusiast. Blessed to have maintained lifelong friendships, time spent with friends
watching his revered North Carolina Tarheels, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Boston Red Sox,
and New England Patriots brought him great joy. He had a deep abiding love of music and
enjoyed the occasional Karaoke night entertaining those around him where he sang with
unrestrained enthusiasm. During a long battle with health issues, he was limited in his abilities,
but it was the simple joy of spending time with family and friends where he was able to escape
to a world filled with laughter and love. He maintained his Catholic faith, knowing God, in all
his goodness, and boundless mercy would bring him home to find eternal rest.
Steve is preceded in death by his beloved parents, John Randolph Traylor and Anne Laverne
Traylor. He leaves behind his beautiful son John Christian Traylor, sister Paula Jester, brother
Michael Traylor, sister Nancy Loose (Mark), cousins Joseph, Paul, Jacqueline, nieces and
nephews Christopher, Megan, Clare, Shaun, Kyle as well as his dear friends and extended family
members. May you flourish in the fruits of God's everlasting love. You remain forever in our
hearts and are missed beyond measure.
