John R. Trobaugh died peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at his home in Thurmont, MD, after a brief illness. He passed away in the company of his loving wife and pets in the forested region of the Catoctin Mountains he took delight in calling home. John was 70.

John was born on May 27, 1955, in Beech Grove, IN, the son of Joseph Hinkle Trobaugh Sr. and Marjorie "Echo" MaHannah Trobaugh. He grew up in West Chester, PA, and remained in close contact with many of his childhood friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Joseph Hinkle Trobaugh II and Thomas Aten Trobaugh. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Maxine Medaglia, and canines Rudolph, Kali, and Buffy. John took joy in following the lives of his nephews Joey, Torre, Townley, and William, and nieces Sierra and Ariana, and enjoyed the times they shared.

John was proud of his continuous service to the Department of Defense. He served in the U.S. Navy on the carrier Lexington and stayed on as a "yardbird" at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. Upon closure of PNSY he was transferred to Ft. Detrick and USAMRIID, from which he retired. Following his wishes, John's remains will be returned to the Navy for burial at sea. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date following the naval ceremony.

After retirement, John joined Maxine in their dog training business and took great pride in helping families and their dogs live together harmoniously. Being a part of Wags For Hope and volunteering at Rock Creek School in Frederick were very important to him.

To honor John's memory, go fly a kite, take your dog for a walk, or go for a ride on your bicycle or motorcycle.
