Obituary published on Legacy.com by D`Alessandro Funeral Home & Crematory on Feb. 14, 2025.
John "Jack" M. Tulley, 83 of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2025 with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Judy Tulley; cherished father of Jody (John Walter) and John (Alishia); loving grandfather of Jack Sailor (20), Madelyn (16) and Zach (15). He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Helen Tulley; his sister, Patty and his brother, Tom. Survived by his sister, Karen as well as many amazing nieces and nephews.
Jack was born and raised in Connellsville, PA where he was a high school athlete (basketball & football) and most importantly, where he met Judy, his wife of 61 years. They were introduced in 10th grade and together ever since. After attending college at W&J, Jack and Judy married and started their family. Jody was born in Chicago, then John was born a couple of years later in Pittsburgh, specifically Mt. Lebanon.
Most of Jack's career was spent in advertising, working as an Account Exec for several local firms, however, he would tell you his favorite years were spent owning and operating Sunshine Bead Company with his daughter Jody. They loved working side by side - it was a special place and Jack thrived on hanging out and chatting with everyone who came in. He got to know and love so many in the community over those years. He also loved hitting up local flea markets and auctions, searching for unique treasures for "the shop."
After official retirement, Jack continued to embrace life with his unwavering positivity. The guy literally never complained. He loved life, God, family, friends, neighbors and dogs... and not necessarily in that order ;)
Jack was a lover of music - it was always playing in the house and on any given day it could be 3 Dog Night, Queen, a contemporary Christian artist, Eva Cassidy or most recently, Chris Stapleton. He loved checking out live music and listening to old stuff on albums and CD's. The house was never quiet.
Jack loved nature - Bird Park was his happy place. He loved to walk the dogs there and go there quickly after a fresh snowfall. He also loved sports. Coached Jody & John growing up and loved to see and hear about his grandkid's various sports adventures. He followed almost all high school sports and lived for Penn State wrestling.
Jack was also a man with an unbelievably strong faith. He did not fear death but definitely wanted to live life to the fullest. In 2014, after struggling with kidney issues for many years, Jack was given a miracle kidney transplant. His health was failing, and it was a scary time but after just 5 months on the transplant list, Jack was given a kidney that was a "one in a million" perfect match. This was a true miracle, and we feel we were given almost 11 extra years with our special guy.
Jack meant so much to so many, but to no one more than Judy. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's almost 10 years ago and has been slowly declining, but he was by her side to the end - her constant companion and caregiver.
Jack (aka Pops) will be greatly missed. We will think of him, and talk to him, and try to live more like him every day for the rest of our lives. The only difference is, he never had to try - it's just who he was and he made everyone feel special. He will be eternally loved.
There will be a beautiful Celebration of Jack's life in the Spring (hopefully in Bird Park.) Please check back here and on Facebook for details to come. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the
Alzheimer's Association (act.alz.org) or Donate Life PA (donatelifepa.org) in his name.
