John VanSchaick Obituary

John VanSchaick
November 16, 1949 - October 6, 2024
John "Jake" VanSchaick, aged 74, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 16, 1949, in Fort Myers, Florida, Jake was celebrated for his exceptional character, diverse interests, and profound love for his family.
Jake is survived by his devoted wife, Fran Barrett VanSchaick; his cherished daughters, Katrina Alcorn (Brian) and Holly VanSchaick (Sean); and his beloved sisters, Nancy Fisher (David) and Kate Taylor (Sam). He leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Abigail, Raina, Emma, Noel, Ruby, Jake, and Martha, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His lifelong friend, Tom Kerner, also mourns his passing. Jake was predeceased by his parents, John and Sally VanSchaick, and his siblings, Peter and Holly.
Throughout his life, Jake was known for his passion for music, science, and politics. He possessed a strong sense of justice and an unwavering sense of humor that endeared him to all. Jake believed in the power of connection, viewing every encounter as an opportunity to make a new friend. His greatest joy, however, was his family, whom he loved deeply.
Jake's journey through life was marked by his kindness and warmth, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met. As he embarks on his next adventure, may he find peace after a long illness. Jake, you will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved you.
Jake's life will be celebrated on December 6, 2024, at the Unitarian Universalist Society, East 153 West Vernon Street, Manchester, CT 06042, at 11 am. All are welcome.

We named our son for this wonderful man. He is also kind and loving and funny and smart, and it´s no small comfort to know that Jake´s spirit lives on in his grandson.

I miss my wonderful brother, who was always willing to share his wisdom with me and invariably make laugh. Rest in peace Jake.
