John VanZyll Obituary
He was born on April 29, 1940 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Peter and Mary VanZyll. Throughout his life, John was an entrepreneur and businessman. His business journey began with VanZyll Trucking in Michigan, later transitioning to building and construction work in Florida. Most recently, he founded and was the CEO of Diversified Product Inspections in Oliver Springs, where he conducted forensic investigations on products for insurance companies until selling the business just weeks before his passing in January 2026.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was known for his skilled craftsmanship in woodworking and his passion for operating Kubota tractors. His hands-on approach extended far beyond work-he was a pillar of his community, always ready to help neighbors in need.
He will be greatly missed by his life partner and companion of 38 years, Ann Furlong; daughters, Cindy (Ed) Aten and Nikki (Dave) Houck; sons, Arnie (Melanie) VanZyll and Davey (Amy) Harness; sister, Linda (Loren) Hassevoort; brothers, Robert VanZyll and Jerry VanZyll; grandchildren, Cayden Harness, David Houck Jr., Zachery Viers, Anthony King, Jonathan Aten, Timothy Aten, and several other grandchildren.
Also survived by nephews, Dean Hassevoort, Robert VanZyll Jr., Jeff VanZyll, and Tim VanZyll; nieces, Kimberly Hassevoort and Shelly DeHaan; special friends, Kenny and Trish Thoms, John Murphy; Carmen Quinones-Nieves, Becky and Clayton Brown, Lisa Temple, Sheila Graves, Ginger and Jan Covert.
