Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southern Funeral Home - Winnfield on Sep. 25, 2023.
John (Johnny) Raymond Voss was born on October 29, 1942 to the union of Mr. John Anthony and Eloise Hinds Voss. From an early age Johnny was a very energetic hard-working man with a strong work ethic. Johnny followed in his father and grand-father's footsteps working for KCS railroad for over 20 plus years, working in a number of states as responsibilities increased. After KCS Johnny returned home to
Montgomery, Louisiana where he opened John's Grocery. In the years that followed, Johnny owned and ran several businesses in the Montgomery area. Johnny was very committed to his church and community.
Johnny was a lifetime member of Northside Baptist Church. Johnny loved his church serving in whatever capacity was needed and on September 28, 1986 he once again followed in his father's footsteps and ordained as a deacon of Northside Baptist Church. A legacy he was most proud of. Johnny was always ready to be a shoulder for those in need, giving counseling and advice from his lifetime of experiences. Johnny worked at his beloved second hand flea market until his battle with cancer prevented him from doing so. His market was a much a gathering place as a business. Johnny loved to visit with all who came in, friend or customer, and was always ready to give you his testimony as to his love for the Lord.
Johnny completed his journey on earth and went home to our Heavenly Father on September 23, 2023 at the age of 80 years young. He is preceded in that journey by his parents, John A. and Eloise Hinds Voss; nieces Cindy Bullock Barnes, Cristi Bullock Duke; and nephew, Kevin Lane Crayon.
